Do you have a word for the year? Or does God have one for you?
My word for 2024 came from His Word to me so I'm feeling pretty good about it.
ALL, as in ALL, said Paul in II Corinthians 9:8.
A good part of the last month, I've been all-in, as in weak, unmotivated, and coughing til the wee hours. The bug hit hard and it's at it again. The other night—I mean, the other morning, Holli-dog started barking and since I still wasn't asleep, we both got up and watched football around 2 am. I made toast and honey and we settled in for about 30 minutes. I didn't know you could watch football at 2 am. She's also good company for morning quiet times.
Maybe you rang out 2023 with a hearty "Good Riddance!" —due to all sorts of mayhem, mix-up's and maladies, some great, some small—none planned on nor looked for.
My friend's cancer returned and she opted to get a double-mastectomy yesterday. I took over chili and cornbread because I'm not a surgeon and I couldn't think of much else besides prayer, which she knew was the best thing. She asked for prayer and I spread the word.
She told me: "I'm at peace."
I think that falls under the category of "all grace, all sufficiency in all things at all times" —with or without chili and cornbread. Sometimes the worst of times can bring out the best because we remember God's all grace and all sufficiency.
I like this word from Charles Spurgeon:
Have you kissed any waves lately? The best part is where we land in a storm, and I never figure that out until I'm in the storm.
This year I'm looking forward to finding my Savior all sufficient—not only for my salvation, but for the dailies of life. As Swindoll said, "The trouble with life is that it's so daily." I want to find God and His grace in my dailies, storms or not.
You may be new to the concept of a Word of the Year. It's not in the Bible so no worries. But to choose a word can help me recall what God is trying to teach me.
I'm a visual learner. My youngest, the therapist, just told me that. Maybe that's why I have signs all over the house. If you've been in my house, you know what I'm talking about. Here's a good one from my friend and website designer, Jenni Lanier: "YOU CAN TOTALLY SIT WITH US." (Jesus may have said that.)
Here's a list of my words from years past.
WINSOME
LISTEN (WELL)
INCOGNITO
WORTHY
LIGHT
RECEIVE
You can pick one of mine if you like or choose one that's out of the blue but just for you. List in comments if you do and maybe the reason why you chose it (or it chose you.) I'd love to hear how the Lord's working in your life.
I did a podcast on it a while back. Here you go. Ep. 65 DID YOU CHOOSE A WORD FOR THE YEAR?
Arms open wide, I want ALL God's got to give me—all grace, all sufficiency, for all things at all times. Amen? Amen
PS Here's a great chili recipe just because it is very chilly and this is very easy.
