Girl in the Video - Review
Girl in the Video - Lifetime - 2 hours and 0 minutes
Mo comes home to find her teens, Robbie and Krissy, fighting. She breaks it up and prepares dinner before going on a date. Her kids encourage Mo to take this leap into the dating world. A day later, Mo drives Krissy to school, and Krissy asks to go to a party. Mo says no because it's too far, and she doesn't know the boy's parents. Krissy whines at school and asks her friend, Luna, to attend that party. Luna says her parents won't let her. After school, Krissy refuses to eat because Mo won't let her attend the festivities and storms to her room. Robbie tells Mo that Mo isn't strict enough. Mo explains that their late father was the disciplinarian. Mo makes grilled cheese and peace with Krissy before going to bed.
Mo wakes up and finds Krissy's bed empty. Mo assumes Krissy snuck out and calls her, but Krissy doesn't answer. Robbie asks the principal to make a school announcement while Mo calls the police. Lieutenant Audrey takes Mo seriously and searches for Krissy. They discover that Krissy was talking to a boy named Toby before her disappearance. They locate the meeting spot and find Krissy's bike in the woods. Audrey works late fielding the tipline and gets a website on the dark web. Audrey finds a disturbing live video of Krissy and calls the FBI's violent crimes unit. The FBI sends Agent Ray to brief the family. Krissy's kidnapper used catfishing, bought profiles, and sock puppet accounts to lure Krissy. Now, he charges people to watch him abuse Krissy online. And he's escalating. They need to find Krissy before it's too late.
OMG, Lifetime cops are doing their job!!!! Can we get a round of applause for this? Audrey and Ray take Mo seriously. They put boots to the ground and begin their investigation early. Also, they try to keep Mo and Robbie involved while protecting them. They help explain how pedophiles operate to lure tech-savvy teens. Most kids know about catfishing, so criminals will make their profiles look real. This perpetrator is out of Criminal Minds (FTC Affiliate Disclaimer). The script explains his trigger, sick history, and dark intentions. This film is a teaching tool for teens and tweens today. Unfortunately, deceivers create new scams to trap them. This movie will show them how to spot the scammers and listen to their parents. It's a necessary message for an ever-changing world. Watch this one with the family, but don't be surprised if you have to look away.
I give it 4.5 out of 5 stars

True Justice: Family Ties - Review
Casey's friends, PJ and Sara, tell Casey to skip class today, but District Attorney Intern Casey needs it to forget her hardships. Casey's brother, Marcus, waits for the jury to decide his case. Police arrested Marcus, and the district attorney charged him with 2nd-degree murder for killing Davina. Marcus admits to stealing Davina's necklace but claims someone killed her earlier that evening. Police found Marcus's prints on the necklace and Marcus at the crime scene. Casey doesn't think they have enough evidence and hopes for a positive outcome. During class, Public Defender Intern Eli slyly brings up Marcus's case in class, and they argue. Afterward, Professor Ambrose releases her students but asks Eli and Casey to stay. Professor Ambrose understands both students are hurting. Casey worries about Marcus, and Eli was in a long-term relationship with Davina before she died. Professor Ambrose tells them to keep their arguments out of the class. Later, Casey gets a phone call from the public defender because the jury reached its decision.
PJ and Sara go with Casey to the courthouse for support, and Eli comes to comfort Davina's father, Frank. The jury finds Marcus guilty and sentences him to life without parole. Casey and Marcus hug while saying goodbye. She promises to keep looking into the case. When Casey steps outside the courthouse, Casey pulls PJ and Sara aside to talk about appeals. They say she needs new evidence for an appeal or exoneration. PJ and Sara need discovery from the crime scene because the case is over. They need to get it so they can test it again.
They go through the discovery and uncover that the police only tested the necklace for fingerprints. They used that and one witness's testimony to bring a case against Marcus. PJ and Sarah know the police should have collected evidence on and around Davina's body. They need the evidence from the scene before the police burn it or give it to Frank. They need to intercept it. But the only person who can do this is Eli. Eli offers to help. Not to prove Marcus's innocence but to ensure the right person is in jail. With the help of their friend, Private Investigator Liam, these Justice Warriors will turn the wheels of justice and find out who killed Davina.
This new series is off to a powerful start. This film focuses on Casey and Eli. So, their characters get the bulk of the development and backstory. Viewers get a quick introduction to their friends and their careers in the legal system. PJ is a court intern president, and Sara is a CSI intern. Everyone has a specialty to help Casey crack the case. Also, it's delightful to see Hallmark veterans pass the torch to newcomers with a compelling and thought-provoking mystery. This film asks daring questions about the American justice system and every one playing a role within it. The audience solves the crime while pondering fairness, investigation tactics, and human error. This movie is entertaining and stimulating.

The Wrong Life Coach - Review
Jordan feels overwhelmed at work and home. Her new boss, Tara, requests several meetings and increases Jordan's workload while expecting Jordan to maintain her productivity. Jordan's boyfriend, Peter, wants to get married, but Jordan isn't ready. After her father's death, Jordan's mother, Suzanne, moved in with Jordan. Jordan has difficulty with simple decisions because she second-guesses the big ones.
Jordan stands before a barista and can't decide what she wants. A woman behind her, Liz, asks Jordan a few questions and suggests something. Jordan happily takes Liz's advice and sits with her order. Liz joins Jordan and introduces herself as a certified life coach. She believes she can help Jordan get her life on track. Jordan isn't sure that she wants or needs a life coach. Liz offers Jordan a free session and gives Jordan her business card with her website. Liz admits that a life coach can be beneficial. She should know because Rhonda is Liz's life coach. Rhonda gave Liz the drive to start her business. After Jordan hits a wall, she hires Liz. Jordan believes this will be a new start to an abundant and take-charge life. But Liz can't wait to wedge herself into Jordan's world and tear it apart.
While the motive is unoriginal, the plot and acting are fantastic. Liz doesn't hide her crazy from the audience, and the viewers will cheer her on. Jordan does need help. She can't return food and never stands up for herself. This aversion to conflict makes it easier for Liz to intrude on Jordan's life. This movie has everything Lifetimers want, need, and expect from this network. It has a solid body count, pearl-clutching moments, and an intriguing antagonist. Don't miss this delightful addition to The Wrong franchise.
I give it 4.5 out of 5 stars

Romantic Friction - Review
Lea thanks her best friend, Carl, for getting her an interview with Selina at Wade Coleman Publishing. Lea designs soup can labels now but wants to draw book covers. She needs this interview to go well because her work visa will expire in 2 weeks. Before going to the interview, Lea runs to a bookstore for inspiration. She sees a man, Michael, arrange the books. She assumes he works there and asks for recommendations. He suggests Mountain Pacific, but Lea says the book's content is too heavy. She prefers romantic novels like the one recently written by Rose Blossom. He tells her to go to the children's section if she can't handle adult books and walks away.
Michael signs copies of his book for fans. A fan congratulates him on his literary award nomination. He asks for the other nominees and runs to his publishing office afterward. Michael runs into Selina's office and sees Lea sitting there. Lea excuses herself because the interview was awful. Michael explains that he was unknowingly nominated twice for the award. Michael is Rose Blossom. He said romantic novels were mindless dribble, and anyone could write one. So, Selina challenged him to craft a book with the pseudonym Rose Blossom. The book was a smash hit. However, if people discover he wrote it, they will label him a hypocrite. Selina told reporters that Rose is a recluse, but they will want in-depth interviews for the award. Michael tells Selina to get an actress to be Rose. Then, Lea walks in to retrieve a forgotten item. Selina suggests Lea become Rose. Both say no. Later, Lea changes her mind and comes up with terms and conditions. Selina agrees that Lea will get a full-time position if she plays Rose. But only if Michael helps coach her. They all agree to keep the lie until the ceremony. What could go wrong?
Michael looks down on books that have the same plot as this movie. So, viewers feel silly for watching it. Also, nothing about the plot grabs your attention until Carl is on the screen. He is the comic relief that brings you back into the film and the best friend you need. Selina has her boss moments and keeps Michael in check. However, the leads are unlikable and dull. If this is the start of the 2024s Love Sundays, it may not end well.
I give it 2 out of 5 stars
