So, it's not necessarily a cardinal rule that I've put in place for myself, but when I ignore the principle, it leads to a negative mindset that threatens my peace of mind. While I don't subscribe to the notion that ignorance is bliss, I also think an overload of news related to legislation and government spending has the potential to leave a person in something other than a good state of mind.
I suggested to a friend earlier this week that if he doesn't have the ability to change it, influence it or impact the outcome, that his fixation on the news and what's happening in Washington is only making him a crazy person. He would be better off utilizing his time focusing on something he enjoys and promotes his peace of mind.
This morning I made the mistake of ignoring my own advice. Why I even bothered to read anything about the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) and the questions now mandated for disclosure to apply for a small business loan is beyond me. Reportedly, the previous thirteen questions required have now been expanded to eighty-one questions. The CFPB now wants a very personal profile of the applicant including race, ethnicity, and a myriad of questions regarding the applicant's sexuality.
I'm hard-pressed to ascertain how those questions pertain to the applicant's ability or inability to be a candidate for a small business loan. All of the required information for a loan is collected by the bank and sent to the CFPB where the information is collected and added to a data base. Perhaps I'm old school, but I don't consider personal information concerning sexuality any of the federal governments business.
I do think it is the federal governments business to be fiscally solvent. To that end, national debt continues to escalate and there seemingly isn't a plan in place to cover the costs.
By the way, I just deleted twice this amount of information, but under my belief that my blog should be politically neutral, I've already said more than enough. I need to follow my own advice – Since I don't have the ability to change it, influence it or impact the outcome, I should focus on something else.
All My Best!
Don
