I'm not a camper, but the notion that it makes a difference in which direction you pitch your tent makes sense to me. Ideally, the opening of the tent should be opposite the direction of the wind.
The only time the General and I went camping was almost five and a half decades ago and it proved to be a very cool experience. I don't mean that in a comfortable warm and cozy kind of way. It cools off at night in the Davis Mountains of West Texas.
We were living in Odessa at the time, and we went with two other couples from church. They were more prepared than we were. It was not their first time in the great outdoors. I don't remember if we cooked on a campfire or if one of the couples brought a charcoal grill with them.
No doubt we anticipated that the time away would be a Kumbaya kind of experience. Perhaps it was. Strange how memories from long ago can fill one's head. I haven't thought of that camping trip or the two couples from church in many years. We moved from Odessa to San Angelo three or four months later and lost touch with our friends.
I remember that one of the couples had a complicated family history. Both sets of their parents were divorced and remarried. His dad married her mother. If memory serves me well, the his/her parent combination was separated at the time. I'm not sure how that marriage subsequently worked out.
By the way, the General and I didn't have a tent. We did have cots that we borrowed from her folks. It got very cold during the night, and I think before morning we shared the same cot. Either that are we opted to sleep in the car.
All My Best!
Don
