Now for a completely different kind of movie. "Poor Things" is looking like a very interesting film to check out. According to the Previews, I have no idea what this movie will be about or where it will take me which is perfect because sometimes I like to go into a film with a completely open mind.
*The MEAT* Wow, not sure where to start because first and foremost it's a *Weird and Over the Top Frankenstein Story* with a very sophisticated kind of humor coupled with a total dead pan delivery that hits you right in the face. The writing is so clever and deep with plenty of layers you can peel back and interpret in plenty of different ways that it will spark plenty of discussions afterwards.
*The PATATOES* The acting in "Poor Things" is all Emma Stone and Emma Stone is *Brilliant* to say the least. Pretty sure she has the Best Actress award locked up here. Then we have the *Wonderfully Creepy* Willem Dafoe performing another weird character as only he can. Mark Ruffalo and Ramy Youssef round out the other major roles and make them quite memorable, especially Mark Ruffalo's dancing part.
*The VERDICT* I dare to say that "Poor Things" can be a modern day *Masterpiece* and I do not say that lightly. The story, the acting, the cinematography, the music and especially the way this film was directed put it on a unique level that only few films have ever achieved. Yorgos Lanthimos is the Director here that brings a crazy, rich steam punkish fantasy world that looks like something that would happen if Tim Burton and Terry Gilliam had a baby. Now, if you enjoy those director's films then you need to see "Poor Things" in the theaters so you can be fully submersed in that world, and it's worth every penny. However, this movie is not for everyone because it has a very adult theme and situations with strong sexual content that I still wonder how it only received an R rating. You have been warned.
