First and foremost, I wish to say Happy New Year to everyone. The fact that you are very much alive to see this post means you aced 2023 and that's all that matters to me.
You are probably at that point of seeing 2024 goals and adjusting yourself and kids for it. How about I tell yourself to pause on that and let's rewind a bit and let you answer some rather personal questions.
Do you remember those goals you painstakingly wrote down in 2023 and previous years?
Did any of them make it to your 2024 list?
If the answer is yes, then may I ask if the goal was meant to be a long term goal and actually not a one year goal?
If it is meant to be a one year goal but has now made it into a second year, can you honestly check if you are truly in a place to execute this year? It's ok if you are not, in fact that is what this post is about.
The need for you to pull yourself out of self imposed pressure. Sometimes, the only reason you question your status quo is because you worry about the opinion of people who won't be contributing to changing the status quo .
If you are living in a sublet and have to choose between moving to a different area which is cheaper housing or staying in the sublet because it gives your children access to better schools and healthcare, choose better schools and healthcare because when crisis sets in, the cheaper neighborhood might not have good enough healthcare support.
You would merely become another infrastructure statistics and life would go on without you. For this kind of scenario, regularly adding primary home ownership to your annual goals might be unrealistic except you have the income that allows you save for the independent home and a worthy health insurance
Sometimes, the pressure of mounting pressure is from within, I mean directly from your kids. The best way to deal with this is to have clearcut bullet points of your goals and share this with them. Help them understand the relevance of the goals you have set. Help them understand the requirements for the goals they wish to add to your list. You could even project it forward, let us say, when the kids finish college or something like that.
This is 2024, I am hoping we don't add avoidable pressure to existing social and economic pressures and push ourselves into dark holes.
Remember, I love you and you can always send me a message if you need a listening ear or a reading eyes 😂.
Happy New Year once again
