Some of you might recall I lost my 16-year-old cat a couple of months back. My first baby. My snuggle bunny.
Well, we just adopted this 11-month-old girl from the shelter. My husband and I were looking for a kitten, and decided to do the deed while our kids are staying with their grandparents this week so we had time and space to choose carefully.
The handful of kittens at the shelter were skittish and hid.
On a whim, we decided to check out the adult cat section. "Skipper" as she was called at the shelter immediately came up to us, purring and rubbing.
I picked her up and cried because she was a lover like my old cat Boo, and with similar coloring.
"She's the one," I told my husband.
She seemed to know we were her people, and she watched us from inside the glass of the shelter room while we signed the paperwork.
Now Skipper is Penelope "Penny" Lane. She gets along fairly well with our other cat, a one-and-a-half year old boy who likes to be near us but not too close.
Rudy lets the kids carry him around and get all up in his face.
Meanwhile, Miss Penny is all up in my face purring, so grateful to have found her forever home after six months in the shelter. And I'm loving every second.
