It was one of those lazy Sundays. My morning started with taking care of our animal and harvesting our winter greens. Our flock has been replaced. We are back up to 75 chickens. I felt bad for the owner of the dog who destroyed our flock. We owned a dog who plotted to get into our chicken coop from the fenced in yard. Our border collie killed anything smaller than her, we needed to rehome her. The person who owns her now hunts with her and she is happy. He takes her bird hunting and she works on the ranch. My husband finshed fencing in the chicken coop so we know that we won't have this happen again. I was pleased that the dog owner took responsibility and apologised for the sense loss of life.
I will say I had a bit of a sullen afternoon. We had unexpected guests that I didn't feel like entertaining. I am not fond of the drop in guests. We had written in the family newsletter that we are not doing the dropin extended stays anymore. I prepared a snack board and went for a run with our dog. I came back with a less sullen attitude. My husband and I have tag out phrase when one of us says enough about a situtation. Mine is going for a run, his is I have to fix that thing in the garage.
Dinner was planned and the guest's kids are PICKY, in that rude way. You know in that loud, whining way that should have been ended at 5, yet, it has stuck around into the teens. I always have the menu posted on the fridge, their kids said gross, she is making that sweet potato skillet. I was surprised to hear our daughter say, "Well, it's proabably because you have a McDonald's palate, you do not understand mom's menu." My husband heard me laugh and choke on my green tea. He looked at me and called him into the gym. He roared with laughter because our daughter used to be a very picky eater. I cooked our dinner and sure enough, our unannounced guests went to McDonalds for dinner. They came back and still expected to stay. Well, we do not have the space or the fortitude during the school week. The tiny house is rented through AIRBNB every week until April.
Our neighbor's dog continues to come to the door and brings presents to the door. Today, he brought me a cellphone, socks, and a small bible. My husband commented, "It is funny for someone who is not fond of dogs, they certainly love you. He clearly sits by your desk window until you come out. I rolled my eyes and told the dog to sit. I gathered my neighbor's things, put the dog on a leash, and walked him the long way home. The husband laughed to see their dog brought me his cellphone. Honestly, dogs like me because I am strict.
