In addition to providing close supervision to minimize the likelihood that I will do something stupid, the General is like the energizer bunny attending to things that need attention before our home becomes a flurry of activity this weekend. Maybe it falls in the category of curb appeal, but yesterday afternoon she revamped the front porch and eliminated the plants that seemingly didn't survive the last extended winter freeze. I think we were down to single digits and that is way too cold for comfort. It was certainly enough to eliminate any sign of life related to the plants on the porch.
Of course, the winter weather is now in the 70s, and lush green flowering plants would look great on the front porch. The General is smart. She knows that green plants today could easily be dead plants next week. When the outdoor thermostat drops below freezing, all bets are off on whether they will re-emerge in the springtime with new growth.
What the General knows with certainty is that the absence of what appeared to be dead plants on the porch is much better without them. She tossed them all into the trash container. In addition, we now have cable railing across the porch that make it a lot less likely that someone could unknowingly accidently step off the porch and make something other than a graceful landing. It is actually a good look.
Taking on the task of making the front porch more presentable is characteristic of the General's intent to have some sense of pride in how the place looks. At times I tend to overlook what should be obvious. Of course, like a guiding light the General is not hesitant to call that to my attention.
The General has the good sense to know that I don't like being told what to do. Consequently, she normally asks: "Do you want to ___________?" I usually know that it serves me best to want to do whatever she suggests. At the end of the day, it turns out to be a WIN/WIN.
For now, she knows that while I'm off my feet, she's carrying the load for the two of us. I married amazingly well.
All My Best!
Don
