It wasn't as though we purposefully set ground rules, but the General suggested it would be in our best interests not to stay up too late. We all affirmed agreement. At 10:45 p.m., I suggested that we might call it a day. I guess you might say that time got away from us.
It is good to have Larry and Kay in our home. We could have talked nonstop long into the early morning hours, but Larry and Kay need their rest. So does the General. I'm not suggesting they are old, but none of us fall into the concept of spring chickens. That being said, I was asleep last night shortly after my head hit the pillow. It was a welcomed contrast to the night before.
My mother expressed it like this: "Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise." I suspect the saying was probably repeated to her by her mother. I think Benjamin Franklin is credited with originating the thought. Of course, he could have heard it from his mother.
During my childhood years, we followed a 9:00 p.m. bedtime regime through elementary school. During adolescence, we convincingly rallied for changing bedtime to 10:00 p.m. Of course, the concept of daylight savings time was unthought of during those days. In every respect life seemed simpler.
Dad would open the front door and side door of our home and latch the screen doors. I was grown and gone before it registered with me that there were no locks on our doors.
We had friends in Henly that never locked their doors. They said locks only kept honest people out. If someone wanted inside, there was nothing you could do to prevent their entry if you were not at home. They preferred that folks come through the door rather than knock out a window.
The General has a very different mindset. When we lived in Henly, she always locked the door whenever I left the house even if it was only for me to push the trash can to the gate at the road. I thought it was weird. Some of you may be thinking she was trying to give me a message.
Since moving into our home in Blanco, I use the garage door opener to gain access to the garage. We never lock the door from the house to the garage. For that matter, we never locked the door from the garage to the house in Henly either.
All My BEST!
Don
