I'm so excited that our Chookshed Challenge number this month is my Lori Holt Chicken Salad Sew Along!
I was secretly hoping this month would be the chicken salad sewalong because I am in an applique mood and it is a project that I can have in my inside sewing corner to work on a bit every day. It isn't going to take up a lot of space, and it is in the living area which hopefully will remind me to get busy!
I also feel like the blocks are at the "mindless" stage - all I need to do is change thread colors and sew them down.... it will be nice and relaxing, which is just what I need at the moment.
What is Lori Holt's Chicken Salad Sewalong?
Well, in case you were wondering, it is not a new challenge... It started at the beginning of 2022... I thought it was a block of the month, silly me.. turns out it was a block of the week!!! And not surprisingly I got behind pretty quickly.
How Far did I get With the Chicken Salad Sewalong?
Although I clearly didn't get the quilt done in 2022, as you can see from my planning page at the top of this post I have ironed on all the applique bits for all the blocks...
All the blocks have been sitting under a pile of almost finished projects, patiently waiting for me to finish them...
They have all been prepped with some batting behind them, because I like to have that there for stability when I do the raw edge applique...
supplies needed for the Chicken Salad Sew Along!
Thankfully I am at the stage of not needing a lot of supplies for the Chicken Salad Sewalong. The main things needed other than fabric were the Sew Simple Shapes which of course I used when I was tracing the applique shapes.
Now all I need is threads... I had started choosing them and had them in a tin:
I realized I didn't have enough though, so I checked my thread holder:
Even with all those choices I still had to dig up another lot of threads...
After lots o rummaging I think I have enough to get started...
Oh the other thing I needed was empty bobbins - found them in one of my Bernina Barbie Cupboards...
I like to keep bobbins with the threads so that I am not wasting them. I usually put them on the thread board underneath the spool:
Ready to Applique the Chicken Salad Blocks
Now I'm ready for this month's challenge - got the blocks and threads in my dining room sewing nook ready to go...
Ok, I'm all set! No work tomorrow, so I am planning to pull up a chair and get started on the chookies!
What are you working on this month?
