My 2024 theme is reset and grow and in keeping with my chosen phrase of 2024, I decided to reflect on what worked and what did not work for me in January.
The morning routine went straight out the door. Honestly I tried my best. My goal was to wake up at 4:00a.m., stretch, make my bed, complete a full skin care routine, exercise, make and pack breakfast (something substantial and something I am actually proud to call breakfast), have a cup of tea, and then be out of the house to start my work day. None of it happened. After two weeks of trying and failing miserably, I let go of that expectation and settled into a more realistic routine.
Another crazy idea I had was I would dedicate two hours every day during the week to clean so I could have the weekends to myself. We can all collectively laugh at that. The combination of waking up early and the hours long commute quickly saw that plan die. Instead I've opted to try - operative word being 'try' - and dedicate thirty minutes to exercise, thirty minutes to self-development, thirty minutes to cleaning. This is still a work in progress as I usually go with how I feel on evenings but I'll hammer it out by the end of March.
All in all January taught me a very important lesson - it is okay to tweak my goals to fit my current reality. Maybe one I'll be able to wake up at 4:00a.m. and do the whole nine yards and come home on evenings and do another nine yards, but for now it's not possible and that's okay. Each day I will decide what is important to me on that day and what gets my attention until I find that sweet spot I am looking for.
So if like me, you have found yourself struggling to achieve the goals you set out for yourself this year, seriously examine and consider what aspects of your goal is working for you and what is not working you. Do not be afraid to adjust and/or remove what is not working for you and don't forget to celebrate all your wins.
