San Francisco Marathon & Other Challenges
SF Marathon
After the rare dream of my late husband, I wondered what I meant when I told him, "It's over now." It has been seven years since his death, and it will be eight in July, which coincides with the SF Marathon.
I have always loved to do hard things. The harder the better, for example starting a sailing apparel brand like Ocean SF has been anything but easy, but running is something I do not like. I was a sprinter and hurdler for a brief moment in high school, but I could not do the distance running. Therefore, the hardest thing I could tackle is trying to run a marathon now. It's like trying to be a ski instructor at 40, which I did, so I know it's not impossible, and as my mother would say,
Lesser people have done it Sydney! — Joan Chaney
With a mother dishing out that kind of advice, I became someone who did not shy away from any challenge. I am willing to train for this, knowing it will be difficult. I will start with the 5K this year, then graduate to a 10K, and hopefully do the half marathon after that.
"The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step" is a common saying attributed to Lao Tzuthe, a Chinese philosopher. It appears in Chapter 64 of the Dao De Jing, written 2,500 years ago.
