I never thought I would be a homeschooling, homesteading mother, yet, here I am. Everyone had bias, cultural beliefs, I can on and on. Do I always get politically correct language absolutely correct, no. I am a conservative mother who wants to raise global citizens who are kind, mindful of the rights and beliefs of others, while standing for their own beliefs. Conservative has become profanity. You can be conservarive without being hateful.
A few months ago, I had written a book written by gay man who was had been rasied by homeless, mentally ill mother. I wrote that I was not comfortable reading about same-sex sexual experiences, but I am not found of reading sex experiences in book in general. I had made the comment in my book review that our children would not be reading this book. One of my readers went off on me.
We have our children fact check when we are teaching. We have had some debates around the table and across the United States with people. We have spend a lot of time teaching about Israel history the day that Oct 7 happened. We were in DC when protests started. We spoke with a few protestors to discuss why they were protesting. I am a well-rounded reader of political and social issues. We started with the beginning of the Jewish movement toward a homeland in the late 1800's. Then, we went through the entire history of Israel from DC to Maine.
We need to really listen to each other. Look at ourselves, and others with the respectful curiousity about why each of us we think we do.
My husband and I often disagree about politics and social problems. We debate each other in the paper's letters to editor. Let's all remember that we live in a country where we can voice our ideas, and opinions without fear from our government. Let's be kind to each other.
