I awakened around 5:00 this morning feeling rested. Things are beginning to fall into place, so I guess you could also say that I'm more than just a little optimistic. I've now completed three weeks of physical therapy related to my right foot and ankle. I think I'm making progress. However, reportedly resolving issues with a ruptured Achilles tendon is a slow process.
The physical therapist also thinks I'm making progress, but he'd say I'm far from done. He cautions me not to get ahead of myself. I don't have an appointment with my surgeon until March 18th. Initially, the appointment was scheduled for yesterday, but it got changed to March 14. Subsequently that appointment got changed to March 18th.
Of course, in typical fashion, a part of me wants to rush things. I recognize that I'll likely be wearing this orthopedic boot for an extended period, but the mandate that I use the walker to help support keeping part of my weight from impacting my right foot has grown old. Okay, so I'm impatient.
In addition, apart from my voice, I'm feeling much better. The past three weeks have mostly been a struggle. If there is an upside, I've lost some weight. The General was concerned that I ate almost nothing for well over a week. I found that I could make three meals out of a small pot pie. I had absolutely no appetite. Fortunately, I am no longer shying away from food. That, too, has to be a good sign.
I was surprised yesterday when our doorbell rang. I could see through the glass that it was the man from next door. I can't recall when we last saw him, but it was long before Christmas. It may have even been before Thanksgiving. He and his wife live about 45 minutes outside Seattle. They had their home built on the golf course in Blanco as a retreat for themselves. They moved into their home at Christmas 2022. Though our home was started two weeks after theirs, ours wasn't completed until the end of May 2023. I thought it should have been completed in January. The tax office in Blanco County had the same thought based on the construction level completed in September 2022.
The neighbor said he came back to Texas to figure out what he is going to do for landscaping. He keeps getting letters from the HOA telling him that he needs to submit a landscape plan. By the way, we are still in level 4 water restrictions in Blanco. If I were on the HOA, I'd be embarrassed to be asking for a landscape plan.
Our landscape gratefully is nearly finished. In deference to the lack of water, we are xeriscaping our place with an assortment of rock. The landscaper we selected started the work in December. For the past week and a half, he's had several people working. We are hopeful the work will be completed in the next couple of weeks. He wants to wait until toward the end of March to add xeriscape plants. HHe
It seems as though the sun has been up for a couple of hours or more. Though thunderstorms are predicted for later in the day, it appears beautiful outside. I'm hanging on to a spirit of optimism.
