#NewComicsday and it's a great day to be a comic book enthusiast! Green Lantern might finally learn how to get off planet while it gets bizarro in Action Comics. Image is off to a great start with One Hand and something completely different with Napalm Lullaby. While Marvel kicks off Symbiote Spider-Man 2099 with legend Peter David behind the wheel as it continues to look grim for Wolverine. All C's Fan Expo is the sponsor for Smurfs High Five, which is a free to attend con and only a few weeks away. We will have a table there so be sure to stop by, but for now we've got five stacked high ready to fly:
Transformers #6> END OF ARC
ONE WILL STAND, ONE WILL FALL.
The Autobots vs. The Decepticons.
This is it.
And someone isn't going to survive.
(S) Daniel Warren Jonhson (A) Daniel Warren Johnson, Mike Spicer
Smurfs Take> This has been an absolute joy and pleasure to read! And to be honest something I never thought I would say about a transformer comic. Always falling short or just missing the mark, till finally becoming nothing more than a book of pinup and action poses. This has had some unexpected turns, real surprises that wouldn't think of, complemented with true heart behind the characters. This crew understands the characters, understands Transformers and best of all understands comics. Flawless opening arc.
Fables #162> THE BLACK FOREST – Part Twelve
Tink has become something far more powerful than anyone could've imagined, but will she be defeated and things reach their happily ever after? (S) Bill Willingham (A) Mark Buckingham
Smurfs Take> Not sure what the fate of Fables will be after this final issue after the fight between Bill and DC. What I do know is how much I do and have loved this story and series and approach the final with excitement and fear. I want to know how it ends but not really ready for it. Pan has been an amazing enemy and the story with the Wolf cubs has been fun and felt like home and the early Fable stories. Guess we will see who makes it to the final page.
Avengers Twilight #4> THE AVENGERS are on the run from THE NEW AVENGERS as old enemies emerge! And what is the terrible secret of IRON MAN, THE WASP…and H-DAY? (S) Chip Zdarsky (A) Daniel Acuna
Smurfs Take> Holy Balls! This has been the major surprise hit of the year so far for me. Nothing can prepare you; explanations fall short, this is an Avengers story decades in the making. Chip has outdone himself, pure and simple as this will be add to the Classic and must reads for years to come.
Alien: Black, White & Blood #2> THE ALIEN LEGACY CONTINUES IN A BOLD AND BLOODY ANTHOLOGY SERIES! Collin Kelly, Jackson Lanzing and Michael Dowling's generations-spanning epic continues! Then legendary writer Paul Jenkins explores the chemistry of fear in a story that will leave you with a whole new and terrifying understanding of the Xenomorph species. And Stephanie Williams thrills with a story of a marine's first - and possibly last - day on the job. Marvel's landmark BLACK, WHITE & BLOOD series takes horror to another level! (S) Stephanie Renee Williams, Collin Kelly, Jackson Lanzing Paul Jenkins (A) Jethro Morales, Michael Dowling, Luigi Teruel
Smurfs Take> Oh, I really enjoyed the hell out of the first issue, perhaps too much. So many feels of Dark Horse Presents with a lot more liberties to the story and characters that is a must for Sci-Fi, Horror, Monster, and comic book fans. Don't need to know anything just enjoy the ride!
Thundercats #2> In the aftermath of his first battle with the Mu'Tants, Lion-O attempts to use the Sight Beyond Sight to ask for guidance from their lost leader, Jaga. The vision he receives instead leads the ThunderCats to discover another Thundarian survivor on Third Earth! Meanwhile, Slithe and his Mu'Tant band have discovered the pyramid of Mumm Ra - and they're about to learn firsthand how dangerous the Ever-Living one can be!
Red-hot writer DECLAN SHALVEY (Alien, Old Dog) and acclaimed artist DREW MOSS (Gargoyles: Dark Ages, Vampirella/Red Sonja) ramp up the excitement in this second chapter in their all-new ThunderCats adventure, featuring exquisite covers from interplanetary talents DAVID NAKAYAMA, LUCIO PARRILLO, JAE LEE & JUNE CHUNG, as well as SHALVEY and MOSS! (S) Declan Shalvey (A) Drew Moss
Smurfs Take> The first issue felt like an episode right out of the cartoon series and I'm not sure if that good or bad. It's defiantly something new and different but not in the same way or with the same strides as we've seen in Transformers and GI Joe. It was fun for the nostalgia and the twist in the story but in a way wanting to see more. I think there's tremendous potential, a lot of things to explore and stories that were never touched during the long run on TV. But what I do know for sure is, that I wasn't the only one singing the theme song while I was reading the story.
