#NewComicsday and it's a great day to be a comic book enthusiast! DC celebrates the 25th anniversary of Batman/Superman with a classic throwback between Joker and Lex Luthor. Marvel has the week of "X" while expanding on Jango Fett, and Something Epic returns for Image. Smurfs High Five is sponsored by the free to attend All C's Fan Expo that is nearly upon us. Stop by the 5280 Geek booth and shop a room full of various collectible dealers, but for now we've got five stacked high ready to fly:
Cobra Commander #3> "WHAT IS THE SECRET OF ENERGON? Cobra Commander isn't the only one looking to harness the alien energy source known as Energon. That means he has to either take control of the new organization he's encountered…or destroy them. (S) Joshua Williamson (A) Andrea Milana, Annalisa Leoni
Smurfs Take> It's just so damn good. Something I never thought I would say about a book on Cobra Commander and looking forward to more. The integration of all these worlds has been amazing while we explore characters that we thought we knew but had only scratched the surface.
Star Wars Visions> TAKASHI OKAZAKI RETURNS TO THE WORLD OF THE RONIN ONCE MORE! We've seen THE RONIN as a Sith slayer...but who was the Ronin before? See the early history of THE RONIN and his SITH origins in this one-of-a-kind VISIONS Special! Featuring THE RONIN from the first season of the hit Disney+ series, STAR WARS: VISIONS! (S) Takashi Okazaki (A) Takashi Okazaki
Smurfs Take> If this feels like a repeat…you're not wrong. This was supposed to have shipped a few weeks ago but didn't (Fell off the truck I'm sure). But that said I know it is here this week for sure and can't wait to dive into this story. The lore is perfect along with Okazaki's art that flows seamlessly through the pages.
Web of Spider-Man #1> 2024 is primed to be one of the biggest years in Spider-History and you've only seen the tip of the iceberg! In the pages of this one-shot, we're going to lay out some of the biggest upcoming Spider-Stories and characters in the Spider-Verse through the beginning of 2025, and you aren't going to want to miss this! (S) Steve Foxe, Zeb Wells (A) Ed Mcguinness, Greg Land
Smurfs Take> Now this I can get behind! A roadmap to the stories we can expect to see this year. With all of the new Spider-Books that have been hitting the shelf I've lost track of which ones I like, don't like, and hope that get better. Can't argue with the creative team behind this should be a feast for the eyes.
The Holy Roller #5> Levi infiltrates a secret meeting of neo-no-goodniks and discovers a resurrected 20th-century supervillain with a sinister sales pitch, forcing the Holy Roller to offer his own teeth-shattering sermon of justice! Action! Intrigue! Double-cross and vitamin pills!
(S) Joe Trohman, Andy Samberg, Rick Remender (A) Roland Boschi, Moreno Dinisio
Smurfs Take> This has been a fun read so far and something completely different than what I expected. Dark humor that's not completely over the top but not ready for primetime just yet. Something different then your typical Cape story right here.
Justice League Vs. Godzilla Vs. Kong #6> A mysterious beacon is activated and is drawing Godzilla and his titan brethren toward it…but who–or what–controls the beacon? What secret has Lex Luthor kept under wraps that could change the dynamic of the entire battle?!! (S) Brian Buccellato (A) Christian Duce, Tom Derenick
Smurfs Take> Mashup of the decade right here! The ultimate comic shop argument comes to life, and it's been glorious! Sometimes you don't realize you need something till it's right in front of you and I think the approach DC took on this story has been right and perfect when you think about it. Only one more issue to go and can't wait to see how it ends.
