Dear Snarky,
A year ago, my future mother in law pressured me to go to her sister's bridal shop for my wedding gown. I didn't really want to do this because I had already found a dress I really loved at a bridal shop in the city where I live.
But the pressure got so intense my mom and I both just caved. The shop didn't have the dress I wanted but my fiancé's aunt told me she could order any dress for me. So we give her all the information on the dress I wanted, paid her for it in full with no family discount and then waited for it to arrive.
I've been bugging her about the dress since December since it needed to get here for alterations etc and now, two months before my June wedding her bridal store goes out of business. Bottom line I'm not getting my dress due to "unpaid vendor bills."
To say I'm in a panic would be the understatement of the year. To add to that, the aunt says she can't give me money back because she's filing for bankruptcy and I'll need to wait for the courts to sort it out.
How can I get my money back so I can hopefully find a wedding dress in two months!!!
Signed, A Bride in Distress.
Dear Bride,
Whoa that's a lot. I'm so sorry you're having to go through all this. But just know I'm confident you will still find an amazing dress. Now as for you getting your money back well it's time for the groom to step up.
He needs to talk to his mom and aunt and tell both of them they need to work this out. Why both? Well, his mom put the full court press on his bride to shop at his aunt's store and his aunt F'd Up and both of them need to make it right.
I would also tell your fiancé to tell his aunt that she had to have known that her business was failing and the very least she could have done is give his bride a heads up a little earlier.
He needs to conclude that between the two of them they need to cough up the money so his soon to be wife can buy a wedding dress and if they can't do that then they don't need to be at the wedding.
