I always vote in general elections in my state of NC. I think it is important and a civic responsibility to vote for local, state and federal elections. When I vote, I do my own research and stay off social media and do not watch television media like MSNBC, Fox News, etc. These channels tend to be spouting misinformation for or against their favorite candidate. I also do not read the papers because they have begun to misquote everyone and journalism as it was 10 years ago is dead. Staff writers feed whatever the popular opinion or most recent lie is to the public. I teach a unit on civic responsibility in American History and Civics class. I only teach the basics about the two political parties, the implied differences between the two and allow my students to make their own choices on who to vote for.
I do recommend to people to vote based on your moral code, belief system and thought process. Try not to vote based on the media, protestors, Antifa, conservatives, liberals, etc. Vote what is best for you but also consider your family and friends. As we are seeing now, voting and elections have consequences. Go out and vote in November and win or lose face the results, accept them and know that overall the impact on your day to day life could be small or big. However, if you voted then you cannot bitch, moan or groan about it because you exercised a right and expressed your opinion by voting.
I pray the country finds itself again and stops making everything about politics. Personal opinions, thoughts, ideals and passions should not drive you to push your vote on others. Go get in line, vote, leave and see what happens. Whether you are liberal, conservative, neutral, neither, or do not care. Please vote and see what happens!
