A Marvel Comics appearance by the Silver Surfer
Marvel Studios, as part of a Fantastic Four movie, may be gender-swapping the Silver Surfer, according to Deadline Hollywood.
An excerpt from Deadline:
Sources tell Deadline that Emmy winner Julia Garner is set to play the iconic comic book character in Marvel Studios' The Fantastic Four. Pedro Pascal will play Reed Richards (aka Mr. Fantastic), Vanessa Kirby is Sue Storm (aka the Invisible Woman), Joseph Quinn is Johnny Storm (aka the Human Torch) and Ebon Moss-Bachrach is Ben Grimm (aka the Thing).

While plot details for this film are unknown, sources say Garner will play Shalla-Bal, a version of Silver Surfer from the comics.
The Surfer was created by Jack Kirby (1917-94) as part of a 1960s story arc in The Fantastic Four featuring a super-powerful antagonist, Galactus. Writer-editor Stan Lee was surprised when Kirby delivered pages including the Surfer character. Kirby explained Galactus would want a herald. Roy Thomas, Lee's assistant, witnessed the exchange.
In 1968, the Surfer got his own title, with Lee doing the writing and John Buscema penciling. In the debut issue, Lee and Buscema provided an origin for the Surfer. Lee apparently didn't consult with Kirby.
Here's a description of that story from a 2023 post on the website of Marvel Comics:
Norrin Radd's life began on Zenn-La, a planet known for its utopian qualities. Though Norrin fell in love with Shalla-Bal, he craved adventures in a world with no place for them. That all changed when Galactus showed up, looking to feast on the planet. In an effort to save his people, Radd offered himself up as a bargaining chip. He would serve as Galactus' Herald if Zenn-La would be spared. The Devourer agreed to the deal, transforming Radd into the Silver Surfer by imbuing him with the Power Cosmic.
