The courage to hit Publish was pretty daunting seven years ago today when I started this blog. Everything seemed daunting seven years ago. We had only been in our new home in Spain for twenty-three days. 23!
Everything was new. There were challenges to overcome. Hurdles to face. Bureaucracy to maneuver through. There was always one more document required for whatever we were trying to do.
Our internet service at the time was slower than dial-up (remember dial-up?). I would upload a photo or two and had to walk away for an hour before it would finally be finished. For a blog that features lots of photos, that was excruciating for me. To add even more pressure I set a schedule for myself to post a blog six days every week. There were days when at 7pm I was stressing out because I hadn't written my blog yet. Would the state of the world be altered if I didn't post a blog? No. But, I was tough on myself.
If you're a follower from those early days, then you know that I have pretty much stopped blogging. I found that when I finally got serious about writing my first novel I couldn't do both. Between learning the craft of writing and the actual writing I just didn't have anything left for the blog.
It took me many years to write the first book in my women's fiction series. Even after everything I've learned and continue to learn, hitting Publish on Amazon for my book was even more daunting than publishing my first blog post.
The second book in my series is in the editing phase and this autumn I will be hitting Publish again. I'm sure I'll be nervous, but I guarantee there will also be a special bottle of cava opened in celebration.
Follow your dreams. Even if you take baby steps. Do the hard thing. It's so worth it!
