Years ago, I used to put 3 large trash cans out a week. We have 1 bag a week. The key is to bring less packaging in. Look at reusable things. I use a lot of metal and glass materials. If we eat out, I bring a container for leftovers. I bring metal straws for everyone.
I am not saying that plastic doesn't have a place in our world and many life -saving things are made of plastic. Car seats is one item that comes to mind.
When you are clearing out things you can't use, donate them. DVDS have a lot of plastic cases. I upcycle them into art suppply holders for our daughter. I made a makeup palette for her. I keep one in my purse with a scratch paper notepad and a pencil.
Look a the items you are buying, you can't always go completely waste free. Thumb drives made out of metal have less plastic than a full plastic. Hair brushes made of wood are better choice.
Considering what you need before you buy. I will downgrade items to ourside use. For example, my wooden dish brushes to outside use when they are yucky.
