Daily writing prompt
List the people you admire and look to for advice...
In todays writing prompt it asked me who I admire and why. I admire many people that have had a huge impact on my life, relationships, and teaching/coaching career. The most admired person (my hero) was my dad. He passed away in 2009 and was a great big man standing 6'4 325 pounds. He was a master detective on the police department for over 30 years. He was a stern father, kind man, family oriented with a great moral compass that served his community and others above himself. He taught me how to be a father, husband, brother and friend to people. His impact on mine and my brothers will forever be there and continues to this day.

My mom was also my best friend and hero. We lost her in 2017 and she is sorely missed. Unlike my dad, she was small of stature but had a fire in her like no other. She was passionate about her family, friends and community. She was a great mom, grandmother and friend to all. She loved my kids like no one could and took good care of everyone. She was generally laid back and quiet, but when needed she could be a firecracker with power. She was the matriarch of the family and my other hero.
From a career perspective I must say I have had the pleasure of working with some of the best men and women in education around where I am from. These fellow coaches and teachers had a massive impact on who I am as a teacher and coach today. They were motivated to help students become the best they could. They were supportive but hard when needed. They were great leaders and coaches with focus on winning, competing, and getting better everyday. I learned to have goals, work hard and be a planner from them. It has helped me have a great career with some pretty good highlights along the way.

As for personal relationships. My wife Cindy of 32 years is my rock. She is my motivation to work hard daily. She is my motivation to play hard everyday. She is the firm foundation that I needed long ago to keep the straight and narrow path. She is a great mom also and works really hard for our now grown girls. A good Christian woman with morals and values that made our children into good adults. These and many others have impacted me the most. We all need to look at and appreciate the little and big things these people do for us!
