Care for Young People's Future (CYPF) has launched a new project designed to support Roma women into employment.
The project – which will initially run until March 2025 - has been commissioned by Opportunity Sheffield, the Employment & Skills Service in Sheffield City Council, and is part-funded by the UK Shared Prosperity fund.
Building on the success of CYPF's RTransform initiative, which empowered Roma women across Europe to transform educational systems, the team is now embarking on a mission to empower Roma women in Sheffield to access employment, education, and training opportunities.
Over the past three years, the RTransform project has demonstrated the incredible potential of Roma women when provided with the right support and opportunities. This new project is the next step towards creating meaningful change in the lives of Roma women in Sheffield.
CYPF's new UKSPF project aims to engage economically inactive and socially excluded Roma women, providing them with tailored support services, networking opportunities, and access to educational and employment resources.
Through initiatives like weekly drop-in sessions, educational visits to local universities and colleges, Roma Women Gatherings, and networking events, the team is committed to empowering Roma women to achieve their career and educational goals.
This employment project will focus on six areas:
1. Women's Career Advisor
Personalised guidance and assistance to Roma women, helping them navigate their career paths, set goals, and access employment and educational opportunities.
2. Weekly Job Sessions
Consistent support in the journey towards employment and education, where Roma women can receive assistance with job search strategies, CV-writing, interview preparation, and more. These sessions will be tailored to the needs and aspirations of each participant, ensuring they have the skills and confidence to succeed.
3. Visits to Employers
Visits to local employers to showcase different career paths and provide networking opportunities and insights into workplace culture and expectations.
4. Educational Visits
Educational visits to local universities and colleges, giving Roma women the chance to explore further education options, learn about different courses, and connect with academic advisors. These visits will empower participants to pursue their educational aspirations and enhance their skills and qualifications.
5. Networking Events
To facilitate connections and opportunities. These networking events will bring together Roma women, employers, educators, and community leaders, creating a supportive environment where meaningful connections can be made. Through networking, Roma women can expand their social capital, access mentorship opportunities, and explore new career paths.
6. Roma Women Gatherings/Conferences
Part of the team's commitment to empowerment and community building. These events will feature Roma women role models in employment and education, providing inspiration, motivation, and practical advice to participants. By showcasing success stories and sharing best practices, CYPF aims to empower Roma women to pursue their dreams and overcome barriers to success.
Through these activities, CYPF and Opportunity Sheffield are dedicated to empowering Roma women in Sheffield to achieve their full potential, and ultimately, to creating more equal and inclusive employment opportunities for all.
