Heart Power
"Teach me Your way O Lord, that I may walk in Your truth; give me an undivided heart to revere Your Name" Psalm 86:11
I want heart power.
It's a strength that slowly comes from "feeding on God's faithfulness". (Psalm 37:3) It's not brief like we may have after a charged-up worship service; it's a steadily growing inner strength that comes from spending time with God alone- filling ourselves with Scripture by meditating on them; taking time to be in silence, stillness and prayer.
Willpower is not enough in itself. When used as the only tool in the toolkit, it inevitably leaves many men and women feeling defeated and hopeless. Paul Crawford
Many of us want to change, but willpower alone is never enough. It runs out. Willpower could be defined as an internal power, energy, strength to say 'no' to things that are bad for us, and 'yes' to things that are good. But willpower is compromised by H.A.L.T.S. – times when we are H=hungry; A=angry; L=lonely; T=tired; S=sick, sad, stressed. When we need quick relief, we go back to the old and familiar habits.
There is a God-shaped vacuum in the heart of each man that cannot be satisfied by any created thing but only by God the Creator, made known through Jesus Christ. Blaise Pascal
Jesus had heart power. He was fully human – subject to knowing the H.A.L.T.S. of this life, but He was also Divine; knowing the fullness of what God's beauty and purpose was like. Our Lord and Our Friend yielded to the Father's plan and developed that heart power: that power which steadily grows and strengthens us. As we lean into Holy Spirit, we learn to rely on His quiet power within us to develop that same heart power 'moment by moment' (Isaiah 27:3). What a wonderful Savior. What a wonderful plan the Father has for us.
1 John 4:17 "as He is, so are we in this world".
Our Lord and Our Friend, Jesus Christ – truly is the Way, the Truth and the Life.
Thank You Jesus!
