Last summer, his big brother came home after a Starbucks run. "I got you something!"
But he only had a cup of water that they gave him at the drive-through window.
Little brother's grin fell. It wasn't the grande iced decaf vanilla latte he had hoped for.
His big brother thought it was hysterical.
So, the next trip to Starbucks, he returned home again with "I got you something!"
Little brother ran down the stairs, ready again for his treat, in that way that little brothers keep believing.
Only a cup of water with that annoying Starbucks sticker sat on the kitchen counter.
He sighed, hopes dashed again.
"Naaaah," said the older one, smiling, as he opened the fridge. "I got you!"
The grande iced decaf vanilla latte stood there in all its glory.
A year later, little brother finally driving, he texted to see if anyone wanted him to pick up Starbucks on his way home from school.
But when his older brother opened the door for his grande hot white chocolate mocha, little brother handed him a water. Just that Starbucks sticker on the cup.
Big brother's grin fell, but this time.... finally.... the joke was on him.
"Naaaah!" said little brother, smiling from ear to ear as he ran back to the car. "I got you!"
A whole year later, little brother held up the mocha like a trophy.
What a class act.
