you
enthralled me in the waiting empty sanctuary
(your fragrance filling holding me there)
I held my breath entranced
you drew me with cords of love
knotted around my searching heart as
yet unknowing
you
never released your hold untied the knots
let me go or fall
jettisoned abandoned but
stroked my head as
I cried myself to sleep always
there
when no one else welcomed me
(your visions of love embraced me)
you delighted in
my being
you spoke silently to my bleeding heart
until l could hear you call
my name
(your voice exhaling very essence)
I inhaled unfailing unending
you danced on the walls
(your leaping stomping triumph reverberating)
until they fell
they're still falling joyful falling
with every breath
"You called, you shouted, and you broke through my deafness. You flashed, you shone, and you dispelled my blindness. You breathed your fragrance on me; I drew in breath and now I pant for you. I have tasted you, now I hunger and thirst for more." -- Augustine of Hippo, Confessions, 10:27
