Most of us have memories of our childhood favourite food. Mine was without doubt a macaroni dish my mother used to cook. It was a simple tomato paste-based macaroni dish with onion and chopped ham, seasoned with Worcestershire sauce and fish sauce. The fish sauce gave it an anchovy flavour. It was probably from one of my grandmother's recipes.
Ferninda sent a link to her most recent Instagram post of a Spanish Tuna Pasta dish she cooked with her three boys. Her eldest boy, four and a half year old Luis, had the following to say: "It's yummy. Can we cook this more often?" I was happy that Ferninda was happy. She has been relentlessly trying to improve her cooking skills.

Leona sent a photo of a dish she cooked, with a note that said: "This is the dish I cooked during the weekend. It's a signature dish of a southern city of China. It is called Vegetable Beef (translated literally). The soul of the dish is the beef which has to be pre-cooked with a local sauce with more than 10 different traditional Chinese ingredients."

Leona's dish looks yummy too. When one is away from home, being able to have food which reminds one of home is a big treat.
Aye cooked a typical meal a family would have in Uruguay of Chivito Uruguayo with fries. It was an amazing sandwich with beef, ham, cheese, egg, lettuce, yellow pepper and tomatoes. I managed to finish half of a sandwich. There was a whole piece of steak inside. Suzie managed to eat two sandwiches! I was very impressed. Aye also made a typical dessert from Uruguay – torta alfajor. It is a kind of tart of layers of pastry with dulce de leche (boiled condensed milk) and icing on top. Needless to say, it's super sweet!

I happily drank several cups of what looked like sprite with fruit. It turned out to be a white wine version of sangria called clerico. For a drink with alcohol, it was fairly mild.
Aye misses the barbecues she used to have in Uruguay. She showed us photos of the indoor grills which are common in her home town.
I hope that this post will inspire you to create your own memories of home-cooked favourites.
Have a good weekend and a good week ahead.
