"The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare" is looking like a fun new movie from Guy Ritchie. But Ritchie has been pumping out a lot of *plastic* films lately so I am concerned that this might be another one that he doesn't do the same justice to it that he did in all his early films that made him so famous.
*The MEAT* The story starts with the usual "based on a true story" line which usually means that there is a real story in there underneath all the layers of Hollywood exaggeration. And they do pile on the exaggeration in this movie above and beyond. I could not take anything seriously.
*The PATATOES* With Henry Cavill and Alan Ritchson, Superman and Reacher, the acting cannot be taken seriously. So, going along with the glossy over the top tones of this film, I guess they pull it off. Eiza Gonzalez plays a strong role, but again, *over the Top Cheese* here. Now that I think of it, I'm disappointed that they underutilized both Ritchson and Cavill's talents that we've seen in other projects. I bet a fight between the two of them might have helped this movie out some.
*The VERDICT* I'm sad to say that "The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare" just did not come through in the Fun department at all. I could go along with all the over-the-top cheese, if they made it more fun, but they didn't. It reminded me of that glossy WW2 movie that George Clooney did ten years back "The Monuments Men", where the cast just seemed to be having a good time in a movie about a real bad time and the audience just never got engaged. I'm not saying this is a bad movie, just not one worth a theater ticket right now.
