#NewComicsday and it's a great day to be a comic book enthusiast! I hope you all had a successful Free Comic Book Day, and in case you missed the Energon Universe issue there's another version with added pages hitting shelves today. Marvel is kicking off the summer Vampire event Blood Hunt with most issues having a tie-in for that. While DC is a little light this week offering only seven titles Zod and Batman are in there and shouldn't be overlooked. The top five are sponsored by All C's Collectibles offering cash for the items you no longer have room for but for now, we've got five stacked high ready to fly!
Transformers #8> WELCOME TO CYBERTRON
As the Autobots and Decepticons make some tough choices to survive on Earth, the return of SPOILER will change the war on Cybertron forever. (S) Daniel Warren Johnson (A) Mike Spicer, Jorge Corona
Smurfs Take> I'm so ready to see what's been happening on Cybertron during all of this. I always thought this was a big miss for most of the comic series, that while everyone was taking their nap here on Earth things didn't really change there. If it was all so desperate I figured there would have been more chaos, or the war over with the last of the Autobots defeated.
Ain't No Grave #1> MINISERIES PREMIERE
Eisner Award-winning writer SKOTTIE YOUNG and Eisner Award-nominated artist JORGE CORONA, the team behind the hit series MIDDLEWEST and THE ME YOU LOVE IN THE DARK, are back together with an all-new miniseries, AIN'T NO GRAVE! This Unforgiven-style journey is an original macabre Western/fantasy tale for mature readers, told through a Guillermo Del Toro-esque lens.
Ryder put her violent past behind her when she fell in love and became a mother. But that was before she learned it was all going to be taken away. Now she'll have to pick up her guns once again and ride to kill the one who's behind the threat. Which just happens to be Death.
The genre-bending adventure begins in this DOUBLE-LENGTH FIRST ISSUE, with forty pages of story and no ads! (S) Skottie Young (A) Jorge Corona
Smurfs Take> These two are a force of nature! The last couple of series from Skottie and Jorge have been amazing and excited to see this come to life. I really dig the wester vibe these two seem to create and the images I've seen are amazing.
Strange Academy: Blood Hunt #1> The vampire onslaught of BLOOD HUNT reaches worldwide all the way down to NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA, home of the STRANGE ACADEMY! DOYLE DORMAMMU, SHAYLEE, TOTH, ZOE, GERMÁN get embroiled in an adventure that will take them around the Marvel Universe and right into the center of the BLOOD HUNT action! That's right, the kids from the best new series of the decade find themselves at center stage of the Marvel event of 2024! (S) Daniel Older (A) Luigi Zagaria
Smurfs Take> The Free Comic Book Day into for Blood Hunt was good, and I like the Earth plunged into darkness for the Vampires to run wild. I know DC did this bit last year and now it's Marvels go at it and who's to say what publisher will do it better. I love this title, and I agree it's one of Marvels best that shouldn't be left out of the action, taking center stage is even better. It's too early to tell if this all will be a hit or not but excited to see how it starts off.
Amazing Spider-Man #49> A BLOOD HUNT TIE-IN! Vampires are running rampant through New York City and while the Avengers are caught in the middle, someone has to take care of the citizens of the Big Apple. That person? Yep, Spider-Man. But if only it were that simple. Things never are and this issue leads directly into Spider-Man's larger role in BLOOD HUNT! (S) Zeb Wells (A) Ed Mcguinness
Smurfs Take> Spidey has improved over the past few months for me, and I think this is the perfect story for him to thrive. We've also had this large build up for him and I think we are about to see it payoff in the next few issues.
The Valiants #1> A mysterious sinkhole emerges in the heart of DC, devouring the newly erected X-O Memorial statue in its depths. But this is no ordinary sinkhole; it's a gateway to The Faraway, a realm beyond imagination, teeming with peril and unknown wonders.
Prepare for an epic adventure as Jamie Capshaw, the mastermind behind Valiant's new team, brings together an ensemble of extraordinary characters, including the iconic Eternal Warrior, Ninjak, Bloodshot, and other guest stars! (S) Ryan Cady (A) Al Barrionuevo (CA) Agustin Alessio
Smurfs Take> I like the whole idea of this story and excited to see some neglected characters getting used. I really want to see a win for Valiant and I think this shows enormous promise for that.
Little Monsters Deluxe HC> hey are the last children on Earth...who also happen to be vampires. For longer than they can remember, these child vampires have lived a life of eternal wonder amongst the ruins of humanity. But shocking events fracture the group and set them on a path of discovery that will shatter their innocence forever. Their ultimate survival depends on their ability to work together against the humans.
It's Lord of the Flies meets vampires in an oversized deluxe hardcover volume of the bold series from JEFF LEMIRE and DUSTIN NGUYEN, the Eisner-winning creative team behind the bestselling DESCENDER and ASCENDER series.
Collects the entire hit LITTLE MONSTERS series (#1-13)! (S) Jeff Lemire (A) Dustin Nguyen
Smurfs Take> This was an amazing series and absolutely loved it. I really think it's Jeff's best story to date and is a must read and have!
