Last Thursday, the choir concert scheduled for Sunday, June 2 was canceled. This decision was the result of pain expressed in the congregation and has resulted in additional pain from others in the congregation.
Throughout this process, we have centered our call to be healers and reconcilers. Where there is pain, our call from Christ is together to learn from it and together to seek healing.
Listening and healing for everyone is our top priority right now. And as such we are working with a racial justice organization and our vestry's Racial Justice Advisory Board to provide facilitated opportunities for everyone to express what is on their hearts and listen deeply to each other and together begin to find a way forward.
Our core values of Radical Inclusion, Courageous Justice, Joyful Spirituality and Ethical Stewardship are beautiful and challenging. We are experiencing the challenge of it now. And the love we have for each other in community is and will see us through.
While I won't get into the details here, suffice it to say that there was significant misinformation in the original announcement posted to our church website about the concert. Please see this FAQ (frequently asked questions) for more detailed information (link to document here) … and it is important to note that what was originally circulated did not represent how this process unfolded.
In Christ's love,
Mike
