Meal times are family times. Cooking at home fosters family life. It also fosters friendship when friends join the family meals.
Recently, my mother was talking fondly of a friend whom she regarded as the best cook among her friends. Her friend entertained at home often. Her culinary skills were outstanding. I remember my mother's friend as a bubbly motherly lady who would mother everyone. I don't remember her cooking as I was probably too young to be invited to lunch with the ladies. I grew to like the image of ladies who are esteemed for their culinary skills who enjoy sharing their cooking with others. I came to regard motherly skills to include culinary skills.
My mother's friend's daughter, P'Pew, sent me a photo of the iced black coffee, open ham and caviar sandwiches she had for breakfast. I don't know if her culinary skills are as good as her mother's, though I would not be surprised if they are. We tend to acquire skills from our mothers, sometimes subconsciously.
Grilled chicken with home-made BBQ sauce
Salad
Pineapple, dragon fruit, grapes
Kathleen was over for dinner with us this week. We had grilled chicken with home-made BBQ sauce and salad. She sent the following note the next day: "Nelly's cooking is so goood!!! I should learn from her one day!! but it's true that home cooked food is the best, that's the food that I miss the most - My mom's cooking!"
Have a good weekend.
