When home-cooked food is so good, no one wants to go out for dinner!
Someone commented over lunch that last night's Korean chicken wings for dinner looked so good, it was hard for her to go out with a friend for dinner. I share her sentiments that our home-cooked meals are the best.
When Nelly gets into her chef's uniform, she means business. This week she cooked nasi biryani for dinner one evening. She made bread buns to go with the tuna pie on Friday. They were so good.
Nasi biryani
Nasi biryani
I always remember a former colleague when I think of nasi biryani. We used to go to a roti prata shop near the office for lunch on some days. If it was a Friday, I would have roti prata with a non-meat curry gravy, while she would have nasi biryani. She explained that nasi biryani is a special dish that is served on Fridays, which is a holy day for Muslims, like Sunday is for Christians. She explained how the meat is cooked with the rice and spices which makes the rice is so flavourful.
I used to think that nasi biryani is similar to paella in that the meat is cooked with the rice. Perhaps not many people would agree with me, because paella and nasi biryani are very different. I like them both.
To me, the mark of a good cook is being able to cook lamb well. I have to admit that I have never attempted to cook lamb. The most complicated dish I ever cooked was Peking duck. It took me two days and I told myself that I would never do something so crazy again!
Recently, Nelly cooked lamb chops. They were good. We rarely have lamb, so it was a treat for a special day.
I hope you are enjoying your weekend. We have a public holiday tomorrow here in Singapore, so I hope you are inspired to do some cooking at home.
