Not coming to a theater near you anytime soon
Updated from a 2022 post.
Two years ago (late June 2022), Barbara Broccoli, boss of Eon Productions, said (in remarks reported by Deadline) that James Bond is about to be reinvented and that filming of Bond 26 won't take place for at least two years.
Since then, Broccoli was proven correct. Nothing new has taken place. As far as we know, there's no actor and no script.
It would seem nothing will happen until the reinvention occurs.
Naturally, the blog has questions.
So when might Bond 26 come out? Your guess is as good as mine.
Are there potential complications? Amazon, which acquired Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer 2021, is yet to be heard from. Would Amazon try to pressure Eon to move faster?
I wouldn't go banco on that.
Is this a surprise? No. Eon is not known for advanced planning.
Some Bond fans have been waiting since No Time to Die completed production in 2019 and the 25th Eon film was released in 2021.
Eon has been evaluating its options for years. Eon's Barbara Broccoli said after No Time to Die came out in 2021 that she was celebrating the tenure of Daniel Craig as Bond. She didn't sound as if she were in a hurry to deal with a post-Craig era.
What might take place because of this? Who knows?
Anything else? By this time, many fan favorites to be the next Bond actor have aged out.
