On my way back here, from getting the morning papers today, I'd caught two, baby swallows that had, fallen out of their, nests, and died…
Fell out of their, nests, where were the parents, huh? I thought parents were supposed to, keep a watchful eye over their own, offspring. Apparently, that's not, how it works in the rest of the, animal kingdom (besides the primates and humans…). Fell out of their, nests, there were, TWO that became, immobile (due to how DEAD they were!), and, there was, nothing that I could've done FOR them, despite how their parents were, right there, up higher on that, wire, looking down.
call it, DEATH in IMPACT then...photo from online
Fell out of their, nests, I can't help, but wondered, HOW do the parents of these, birdlings (those are, baby birds, right???) feel? Do they GRIEVE, as we humans do, like when WE lose our young? Or, do they simply, see it as, another process of evolution, the survival of the fittest, and for whatever reasons there may have been, their current hatchlings, just didn't have the, strong 'nough DNA, was that why they had to, get, "eliminated" by natural, selection???
Fell out of their, nests, do birds, grieve for the too-soon-gone lives of their own young, like we humans do? I hope not, because, that would be, so totally, hard for them, because, there are, always the hands of nature at work in this, because, not ALL "children", survive into their, ADULTHOOD, years………
Well, call that, NATURAL SELECTION working ITS, M-A-G-I-C then………
