The heat wave across the country is miserable. I was in the pool twice. There are a few ways to make pool maintenance frugal. One is to vacuum the gunk. The second is to skim and run the filter. The third is to use blue chlorine, it lasts longer.
Drinks and other homemade cool treats in my fridge. If I were to add these treats to the grocery shop I would be adding another 25 dollars to the grocery shop.
Homemade ginger ale
lavender mint lemonade
cucumber/mint water
iced green tea
ice coffees ready to be blended with coffee ice cubes
Italian ices
yogurt pops
raspberry sorbet.
Our gardens are abundant in places and weak in others.
Dinner was a pork fajita salad bowl. The total cost of the dish was 8.60 for dinner for 4 and 2 lunches. The pork was 4.22 for a pound and a half. The goal for dinner meal meat is 5 dollars or less. I prefer the meats we grow. We are not quite to meat season.
Now is the time to start stocking up on school supplies and clothing to ease the budget burdens in the Fall.
If you live in an area where you can pick fresh fruit, it is a great way to save money, Our family loves fresh peaches, pears, apricots, and cherries. We live in an area where these fruits are plentiful. I have several fruit trees on our lot. This week I will be canning, and freezing these fruits for the winter. I also will be making more jams this year. I save hundreds every year in out budget by growing, picking, and preserving our fruits.
Today, I dried celery leaves, orange peel, and lemon peel. I smirk on this one. A bottle of these spices are priced at over 5 dollars. These are kitchen scraps we all throw away. I simply put them in tin pans inside the minivan, yes, Colorado gets that hot. It is a great way to scent the van and save on resources.
