No matter what state I am in, there will be a person who tells me their life story. I can be in a grocery store, a gas station, a campground, or an eatery. My husband is always amazed because I do not have a friendly expression. I have heard so many stories of people standing in line across this country. There are many broken people in the world. I have heard stories of broken hearts, trauma, fear, joy, sorrow, and rage. I always try to be mindful of my internal responses in response to my triggers. In October, I had a visit with my mom that broke me I was crying in the bathroom stall I had put a podcast on my phone which was in my purse when someone else walked in. I pulled myself together. I walked out to find another person who had come from the same care home. I washed my hands and fixed my makeup. Her eyes looked at me pleadingly, looking for space to share. I drew in a breath and listened to her. I didn't offer any insight, I just listened to her rant and rave about how unfair it was that she had lost her beloved father and it was like visiting a stranger. | | | | You can also reply to this email to leave a comment. | | | | |
