Book description
Come join us at the castle as a loving king and queen present their daughter with a gift from God—her first kiss—to keep or to give away. As various suitors compete for the princess' attention, the wise girl waits for the man who is worthy of her precious gift. Where is he and how will she ever find him? The surprising answer in this marvelous parable will touch the heart of parent and child alike.
The Princess and the Kiss beautifully portrays the ageless message that "love…comes from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith" (1 Timothy 1:5, NIV)
Whether given as a gift or used as a teaching resource, this book will help children understand the value of a pure heart.
My Review & Thoughts
I wanted to like this book: I am a Christian, I enjoy fairy tales. However I'm very uncertain about how I feel about this book and still very much on the fence about it. I usually enjoy illustrations inside of most books and look at the detail in each. This book had me really disappointed in the illustrations maybe it's just my personal opinion but I found them rather weird and just plain unattractive for better words.
I believe after reading this book a total of four times that it puts ideas that are negative for young girls. It's also meant for kids 4-8 years of age but honestly I don't think some may understand exactly what it means at that age. I think it's great if young women decide to not kiss or have a physical relationship with a man until marriage because they want a strong spiritual and emotional commitment first. This doesn't mean they can't date along the way and find the right man for them. I read into it as this book says that if you do not personally wait, God thinks you've lost your "gift" and are less pure is judgmental. This is where I am so on the fence about things. What about the young girls and women who get sexually abuse? Are you saying God thinks differently of them?
I personally won't recommend this book because of how my personal views are of it.
