Over the past few weeks, I've been looking at my wardrobe for fall and winter. One of the "holes" in my wardrobe is the whimsical aspect of getting dressed, and I revisited my idea of making or buying a tulle skirt. They are rather expensive, and I got the notion that it wouldn't be beyond my sewing skills to make one.
Come to find out, I had all the materials to make a tulle skirt in sparkle-y pink. In 2019, I bought all the fabric and elastic needed for this project. I must have set it aside for the pandemic. I got really good prices on the fabric and materials though!
This past week, I worked on getting the skirt started well. I found several videos online that showed me how to make the general construction. The hardest part, according to the videos, is gathering the tulle, which is done! My fabric cutting is also done, so no more measurements needed.
It's pinned to the dress form right now, just to inspire me to get in and finish the details. I bought an under skirt that is slippery and fiddly. I'm not convinced I can hem it well, but I'm thinking on it! Maybe I could use a rolled hem foot on my Singer Featherweight to hem the bottom edge? I also need to overlock the edges without a serger. We shall see what I can come up with on that front!
Have you sewn a garment lately? They're not as easy as straight sewing! This is a stretch outside my comfort zone, but that's not always a bad thing. I pray you're choosing to do things that stretch your abilities and that you have much success with them! I also pray that you are able to take time to do your projects well!
