Amazon through its Prime Video unit has purchased the Bray Film Studios in the U.K. near London, Variety reported, citing an announcement.
The price was not disclosed. Variety said the deal "marks Amazon's first acquisition of a physical studio in the U.K., with Bray set to be used for new and continuing TV series and feature films."
The Financial Times said the Bray property "comprises five stages, workshops and offices."
The transaction perhaps raises questions for the James Bond film franchise produced by Eon Productions.
Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, Eon's longtime studio partner, was acquired by Amazon in 2021. It's now part of MGM Amazon Studios.
Eon's traditional production home base has been Pinewood Studios. But in September 2019, Walt Disney Co. reached a long-term agreement to lease most of Pinewood. The Times of London reported at the time the deal was for 10 years and covered "all the space, except for a couple of TV studios."
For now, all of this is academic. Eon's last Bond film, No Time to Die, wrapped production in the fall of 2019. There are no signs of when production of Bond 26 may happen.
