According to Elena, in the United States it's customary to celebrate the 4th of July with a BBQ. Aye decided to organise an elegant BBQ last weekend. If something is worth doing, it's worth doing in style.
It was a bow-tie event because the of the highlight of the BBQ was the bow-tie pasta with everything. The cherry pie dessert was definitely the star of the evening. Watermelon juice with lime was a great idea. The HomSkil culinary team was showcasing their skills, and promoting the HomSkil Youth Training Programme.
Elena asked if I could get some sausages, capsicums and hot dog buns for the BBQ. I found some nice sausages at a good price. I also found the capsicums, but there were only two packs of hot dog buns with four buns each.
I sent an SOS message to ask if others who were going to be at the BBQ could get hot dog buns. To my surprise, there was a shortage of hot dog buns in the supermarkets. It took four for us going from supermarket to supermarket to get enough for the BBQ. The hot dogs were highly appreciated after all the effort.
The BBQ was a success and an elegant event, complete with party decor and balloons. A neighbour, who was taking her toddler for a walk, stopped at the gate to admire the balloons. Her little girl was fascinated by the balloons, but she was a bit overwhelmed at seeing so many grown-ups. We gave her some balloons and she gave us a shy smile and a goodnight wave.
BBQs are a great way to entertain at home and to make friends.
