I had too many experiences working in social services with families that had dogs with behavioral dogs. In recent years, we have had several dogs. Our border collie had been rehomed several times before we brought her home. We ended up having to find a new home for her after I was warned by the neighbors that she would be shot if she came near his chickens. Our Golden was a piece of work. She had a mind of her own. She had several diseases going on that were not discovered until it was too late. Stella was always with us on our travels and everywhere else. I had always thought that she and I were mismatched, but no, I was always the one who could and would make the decisions she needed. Even the last decision. I believe that four commands will keep your best friend safe: come here, stay, leave it, and drop it. I learned that hand commands worked best when I was tired of my voice.
