Happy Friday! I hope this post finds you well and cool enough!
I've made a beginning on my daughter and son-in-love's Double Wedding Ring quilt! There are various methods by which I could have gone about making this quilt, but I chose a rather traditional one. I chose to make templates from which I will draw and cut out fabrics. Those pieces will then be machine pieced together to form rings and "football" shapes.
One of the fun things is that the pieces are smallish. I am able to get one piece of the ring onto a 2 1/2-inch scrap, so all my scraps were available for this project! The lovebirds went through my scraps carefully deciding what was and was not their style! The results were a really great collection of scraps to make the quilt, so I'm looking forward to the next steps as I begin! The templates are made, but drawing and cutting fabric will be a step that I can do on-the-go!
Thankfully, we settled on the original size of the quilt, so no extra quilt math was needed. I'm not sure I'm good at circle-y quilt math! The pattern gives me the needed background lengths and number of pattern pieces I will need, too. I get to do the fun part, which is arranging color and pattern to suit!
Their background choice is the part of this quilt that isn't traditional in nature. They've chosen Kona Cotton in Charcoal grey. It's going to be absolutely lovely! I'm so looking forward to working on this complex quilt. I've made several using this method, so it's not totally foreign to me. The ones I've made are much smaller, nine rings instead of something like 21, but it's the same concept! (I hope!) I may need a portable design wall set up!
I pray you've found something indoors to do during these heat waves. I'll be doing my best to stay cool, too, as I sew and spend some time in prayer. Do you have something you can do with your hands during prayer time? It sure works to keep your mind and heart actively praying for your family and friends!
