I hope you enjoy the list and find inspiration to practice frugal living! - We ate at home. Eating at home and cooking from scratch are two areas where we're able to save a ton of money.
- We made good food. We ate copycat recipes from our favorite restaurants.
- I made sweet tea for us to drink.
- I stocked some snack food for the hot days. This means I don't have to heat up the house for baking day.
- I cooked on the stove and griddle instead of the oven for the same reason.
- I used my slow cooker to make a roast, which gave us two meals and one cooking session. I love when dinner is done after a few minutes of time in the morning! The first meal was roast and veggies. The second meal was roast beef sandwiches!
- I hung some of our wash to dry inside so that I wasn't paying to both heat and cool the house at the same time. I washed and dried other items in the morning and evening for the same reasons.
- I used homemade clothes washing powder for several loads of clothing. I use the homemade detergent as it's about a quarter less expensive per load.
- We're fixing things around the house. We have a couple of things that need repairs and are things we need to work on together. Those repairs are getting ticked off the list one at a time!
- I replaced my expensive planner with a much, much less expensive version that works better. I'm bullet journaling now, with the help of some great YouTube channels. My journal cost me 16 dollars, so I feel like that's a huge savings!
- I'm cleaning and decluttering slowly. I'm going back to Flylady's cleaning zones and making sure to do some decluttering along the way. This helps me keep a handle on my house, which can be a lot to clean by myself.
- I found significant mark downs at the grocery store on meat this week. I was able to use it right away, so it was still good.
- I'm practicing some "no spend" weeks lately. Besides being able to accomplish a lot at home, this keeps me from spending money on gas, food, and trinkets while I'm out!
- Doc and I went on a date to the bookstore and coffee shop. Neither of us found any new books we needed, but the coffee and company were good! For context, both of us have very long "to be read" lists!
- I'm listening to some books on audio. We have an audio book app, and have many titles saved. I simply picked a few I wanted to read or reread. I'm listening while I quilt!
- I'm determined to redeem my evenings. I'm looking at it as "found time" and trying to learn new things or put my mind to something useful. I've been reading, sewing, writing, and watching educational style videos instead of scrolling on my phone!
- I have a place in my journal to write what I'm grateful for. It's teaching me that less is more, and that I'm blessed with the people and things already in my life.
- I spend time each week balancing my checkbook and making sure the bills have been paid. This keeps me informed about the state of the finances.
- I organized the office in order to best use the space. This helps me find the items needed for finances, time organization, reading, and sewing!
- We've managed to keep the house and ourselves cool by practicing some good ideas like I've mentioned above, but also by keeping the bedroom doors open and fans going. We've worn lightweight clothing, and kept shades closed. We've put off anything that makes heat, like ironing and clothes drying. This helps our electricity usage as well as our temperature!
I hope this list was helpful to you this week! Happy Friday, and Happy frugal ways! Stacy | | | | You can also reply to this email to leave a comment. | | | | |
