In the wake of a Judge dismissing the classified documents case against former President Donald Trump, Florida Republicans are celebrating.
And one is even saying Judge Aileen Cannon deserves to move up to the big show.
"Future Supreme Court Justice Cannon," suggested U.S. Rep. Matt Gaetz, one of Trump's most fervent backers in Florida.
Gaetz's very early suggestion that Cannon, a Trump appointee in 2020, should move from the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida to the high court was not immediately echoed by other Republicans, who have by and large offered more generic comments.
U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio had a one-word response: "Dismissed!"
The Senator had long been skeptical of the case, arguing as far back as 2022 that the FBI and the Justice Department had been "leaking" to the media.
U.S. Sen. Rick Scott called it a "big win" for Trump.
Scott was likewise very vocal previously in evaluating what he saw as deficiencies and inconsistencies in the government's case.
"Why did they raid Mar-a-Lago and why didn't they raid every place (Joe) Biden's ever been?" Scott said in 2023. "This doesn't make any sense. They ought to be clear. There might be a legitimate reason. But tell us why they didn't do it, and why they're treating this differently."
"I don't know how Biden ended up with classified documents from his time in the Senate," Scott added, referring to documents found in Biden's Delaware home that predate his time as Vice President.
Trump, meanwhile, asked for "the dismissal of ALL the Witch Hunts — The January 6th Hoax in Washington, D.C., the Manhattan D.A.'s Zombie Case, the New York A.G. Scam, Fake Claims about a woman I never met (a decades old photo in a line with her then husband does not count), and the Georgia 'Perfect' Phone Call charges."
