Daily writing prompt
What could you let go of, for the sake of harmony?
One must first define what is their personal definition of harmony. I am the first to admit I am an authoritative parent and type A. I parent with firm, loving boundaries and guidance. Our children have a strong sense of self. A Harmonious home for me is for everyone in our home to have a voice, regardless, of my agreement. I welcome pushback as our children grow up. Questioning authority, ideas, and beliefs is common in the teen years.
In the past year, our daughter has come to appreciate that I stuck it out to get her to the person she is becoming. In all honesty, that was my hope to hear when she was in her mid-20s. There were many days that I cried(privately) through her behaviors. One of my common questions to our daughter during the tough years was why do you act the way you do?
A long time ago, I learned that I like our home a certain way. There are chores that I simply do myself, however, I have taken the stance that our children need to understand how to do every single task in the house. When they have learned them I take the tasks back that I need to be done the way I like them
My family of origin is complicated. Harmony is NOT surrendering to tough behaviors, challenging circumstances, and stressors.
