Expenses have been high the past few months. It made me more mindful of those families struggling in our current economy. Many families with a mortgage or high rent could be devastated by a high repair bill, pet bills, job loss, etc. The best thing you could do for your future self is start an emergency fund. Do whatever you can to put 1,000 dollars away and add to that weekly.
In the summer, shop for food in season and at farmer's markets. It is certainly easier and cheaper to eat plant-based during the summer.
Make sure you and your partner are on the same page about money before you get serious. 75% of marriage issues regard money, sex, and household chores. Premarriage counseling can save a lot of heartache.
Take care of your things. There are countless home improvements you can do that cost very little or free. Take care of your clothing, iron your clothes.
Sign up for store discounts. City Market sends me coupons for free products many times a year. Things I won't use I donate.
Do as much labor as you can. It is the most expensive part of jobs. A good example is the rental. I can't find anyone who will do anything for under 75 dollars an hour. I have no problem paying people a fair wage for well-done work. I hired someone to clean the house. The workers didn't clean at all. I took pictures of the befores and the afters. I had provided cleaning lists for the home.
Streaming services continue to rise. Paramount increased by 2 a month which is 24 dollars a year. We decided to reduce services to Hulu Live and Netflix. I get Prime Video with my Prime membership.
High-expenses month should be followed with a no-spend week or two will right the ship.
