It was a thoughtful gift from a friend, who reportedly saw the shirt and thought of me. I'm not sure it was the highest of compliments, but if the shoe fits, why not wear it? The shirt read: "I DO ALL MY OWN STUNTS – BUT NEVER INTENTIONALLY."
This is an entirely different subject, but not really. A couple of days ago, I received a pay by mail invoice from the Central Texas Regional Authority. The amount was only $1.86. What I couldn't figure out is why it wasn't automatically taken care of by my TX Tag account.
I assured the General that I would take care of the invoice. The invoice included a picture of the back of my truck, including the license plate number. Seriously, how difficult could it be to use the "Easy Pay Online" process?
Why not just pay the $1.86 by credit card? It was as simple as ABC until I hit pay and the process was short circuited because I had entered an incorrect mailing address. Back to square one, I started over on the process only to find that once again I entered an incorrect address. I had typed the correct address both times.
They say the third time is the charm, this time the application accepted the card and tossed me into a doxo account. I tell you that only because those four strange letters can be found in my photos. I took a picture of the information.
I would never intentionally fall on my face, and I would never knowingly sign up for a doxo account. In fact, I don't even know what a doxo account is supposed to represent. What I do know is my $1.86 charge was now well over $5.00. That was just the beginning. I then got the sense that I was signing up for a monthly charge. I wasn't going to do that! I just wanted to pay the $1.86 charge and be done with it.
It was like turning into one way traffic going the wrong way. Okay, I know that because I did that once years ago. It was mostly a flurry of anxious filled moments before I could turn around.
I telephoned one of the two numbers printed on the invoice and was given a host of categories from which I could select. None of the categories seemed to have any relationship to the information I needed to find. I simply hung up the phone.
I looked up the number of TX Tag, telephoned and explained the situation. They verified my Tx Tag account, and everything was as it should be. I didn't owe Tx Tag anything. It was then that the person explained that the Central Texas Regional Authority had no relationship to TxTag. It was a different toll road.
I subsequently received an email from doxo to verify my email address. Not on your life! I did not verify the email that was returned to me, but only God knows.
I already knew that I was dumber than dirt, but in the greater Austin area, one toll road looks like another.
I subsequently noticed a QR Code on the invoice and it provided a way to pay the $1.86 without a service charge. Who would have thought? I did pay the $1.86 charge using my credit card.
It is not that I'm disoriented and confused, but I may try to stay clear of toll roads going forward.
All My Best!
Don
