"A Quiet Place: Day One" is the third chapter in John Krasinki's little film project that surprised everyone as a modern-day suspense thriller when the first one was made all those years ago. The second film was a fun ride too, while a tad bit redundant, I still believe there are plenty of stories to be told with this franchise and I am looking forward to this new one.
*The MEAT* If you are all familiar with the story of "A Quiet Place", the premise is pretty cool with aliens that are sound sensitive so you cannot make any noise. Now this movie takes place in New York of all places on the first day of the invasion, so it does have some intense potential. Unfortunately, the story does not live up to that great premise.
*The PATATOES* The acting is all Lupita Nyong'o, and she carries this film very well as she should. Unfortunately, there is no one else stepping up to compliment her with the exception of the cat, which was still a missed opportunity. Whether it's bad acting or just bad characters this movie does not take advantage of Lupita's talents at all.
*The VERDICT* Well, I will say "A Quiet Place: Day One" is entertaining enough to recommend seeing sometime but nothing too special to recommend for the theaters. And I think it is the third best movie in the "Quiet Place" franchise with the special effects for this one as a standout for the series. They just did not give the characters enough reason for me to hope they survive while everyone else gets mutilated and it's especially hard when the lead character has a terminal illness to start with. So, it left me a bit disappointed because they definitely could have done more with this film even though it was not a bad time at the theater, I was just expecting more.
