It is important to know your spending triggers. When I am sad or stressed I tend to want to buy comfort items. Learn to substitute experiences rather than purchase things. We spent the afternoon hiking Sunday afternoon.
Keep your car detailed. You can save hundreds. A weekly vacuum and washing down all the surfaces. I spray down the seats with a natural Febreeze. I sewed a new set of seat covers.
Keep things up. Don't let your house or wardrobe get run down. I touch up the paint on the walls, etc. I sew tears and loose buttons on clothing before washing. I keep a small sewing kit in the laundry room and my sewing machine is in the second closet in the laundry room.
Set your home and your routines to make life easier. You will save money because things will not be broken or lost.
In the summer have a few meatless meals to reduce your grocery budget. I made lovely quinoa, chickpeas, and zucchini burgers. I served the burgers with zucchini and carrot fries. It made enough for 2 meals for 5 dollars.
Does your town have free concerts in the park in the evenings? Pack a picnic supper and make it a night.
Do you have a bumper crop of zucchini? Shred, process them in the food processor, and zoodles. I have these in the freezer. When the tomatoes are ripe, I can stewed zucchini. These are lovely additions to our winter meals. The pureed zucchini is wonderful in breads and muffins. The fresh zucchini, I will be using in our summer meals in slaws, stuffed as you would stuff green peppers.
Start stocking up on YOUR supplies, pens, pencils, etc for stocking up for pennies.
Printers can be a hassle and costly. I refill the black cartridge for 1 dollar a recharge. This saves me 31 dollars a month. I print a lot.
Plan out a week of pantry- stable dishes. If you keep these staples on the shelf, you will always have main dishes you can supplement with fresh ingredients. This can keep your costs down. Families tend to eat the same things or the same type of ingredients.
